Alannah Andersen

Alannah Andersen is the co-founder and current co-director of Momentum Dance Maui. 

 

Alannah began her dance training at age five with Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA), where she was a student for thirteen years. Her formal education includes a BFA in dance from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington (2012), under the direction of Kathryn "Kitty" Daniels. While at Cornish, Alannah choreographed a handful of original works for student showcases and performed with Cornish Dance Theatre. She has studied with master teachers and choreographers such as Kitty Daniels, Wade Madsen, Deborah Wolf, Pat Hon, Twyla Tharp, Iyun Ashani Harrison, Merce Cunningham, and others. 

Alannah began teaching dance in 2007 with MAPA. While in high school, she also taught at performing arts camps in Maui and Tahiti with Game Kids Maui. In 2013, Alannah rejoined the teaching staff at Maui Academy of Performing Arts where she taught for 7 years. She joined the Maui Theatre in Lahaina where she performed in the stage show 'Ulalena as a dancer and aerialist (2013-2016), and was also the Dance Director for the Elvis spinoff show, Burn'n Love (2014-2016). Alannah performed and choreographed with Ampersand Dance Company (2013-2015) and continues to perform with Adaptations Dance Theater (ADT) on Maui. Over the course of her career, Alannah has performed in works by Pat Hon, Iyun Ashani Harrison, Chantal Robson, Mark Kanemura, and others. 
 

Alannah also has a huge passion for fine art and design. In 2015, she founded a boutique calligraphy and design company, Alannah Rae Calligraphy, which catered to the Maui wedding industry. Her work was featured in many magazines and blogs including Vogue, Brides and Sunset. In addition to being an arts educator, Alannah’s most loved role in life is being a wife and mother.
